The first South Liverpool Open Studios took place in Spring 2016 and gave visitors a glimpse of the studios and practice of some of the most exciting artists and makers in Liverpool today. SLOS2017 will be announced in February.
In 2016 nine pioneer artists from across the south of the city opened up their homes and studios to welcome you to look at their work and practice. In 2017 we will be making the event bigger and better.
We set SLOS in motion to show that there is a bold contemporary artistic practice in the suburbs. Liverpool is rightly proud of the contribution it continues to make to the cultural life of the country: it has the UK’s first arts centre (The Bluecoat), community arts organisation (The Black-E), regional Tate Gallery (Tate Liverpool), the UK’s Biennial of contemporary art since 1999 and has a famous creative scene across its vibrant city centre. But there is an established and growing art practice in the outskirts and we aim to celebrate this too!
What to expect in 2017?
This is your chance, for just one day this year, to get a glimpse into the studios of the amazing local artists living and working in Liverpool.
Sheds, garages, workshops and front rooms will be available to see artwork and artist -together. This is a unique opportunity to see art in progress, to speak with the artist or maker, and to buy some work at a studio discount.
And of course, visiting is FREE.
A full list of participating artists for the 2nd edition of SLOS in 2017 will be published here online and in print. In the meantime you can check out the official event leaflet from the 1st edition of 2016 by downloading a copy here.
On the rest of this site you will also see further details of the artists and makers who took part in 2016. Please visit their websites and check out their work.
